What is WhatIFpedia?
WhatIFpedia is the Institute for the Future's collaborative world-building tool to simulate future possibilities in the year 2035. Search for any topic from the year 2035 that you're interested in (or explore any link within an existing article), and WhatIFpedia will simulate a future scenario for that topic leveraging generative AI and IFTF's 10-year forecasts.

- The concept of Identity Assemblages has become central to understanding personal and collective identities in a world characterized by cultural fusion, social fluidity, and political realignment. Individuals increasingly construct their identities from a diverse array of cultural, social, and political elements, rather than adhering to fixed, monolithic categories. This paradigm shift has sparked a renaissance in cultural expression, with the rise of the Neo-Fusion Movement, Assemblage Fiction, and the Polyphonic Identity Festival. Identity Assemblages have also necessitated a reimagining of social structures and interpersonal relationships, as well as political movements and governance models, leading to the emergence of Fluid Social Networks, Assemblage Pedagogy, and the Assemblage Representation System. As traditional forms of community have become less relevant, new models of community-building, such as Assemblage Communities, have emerged, facilitated by platforms like the Global Assemblage Network. While Identity Assemblages offer new possibilities, they also present challenges, leading to the rise of the Rootedness Movement and the ongoing exploration of the long-term implications of this paradigm shift at the Future of Identity Summit.

How does WhatIFpedia work?
WhatIFpedia uses Anthropic's Claude 3.5 AI model on the back-end to simulate articles about future possibilities. As it creates each article, the AI model is prompted to consider IFTF's original forecasts on generative AI, and to play out those forecasts in a fictional simulation of the world ten years from now. These articles should not be taken as predictions of future states, but as provocations of future possibility to help stimulate your thinking about the future strategies of your organizations and communities. Once a topic has been simulated, that article will be made available for any future WhatIFpedia users who search for similar subjects.
